2001

Also known as Also Sprach Zarathustra, this song is based off of Also sprach Zarathustra, Op. 30, a tone poem by Richard Strauss, composed in 1896 and inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche’s philosophical treatise of the same name.

It was the theme Stanely Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.

It was arranged and performed by Eumir Deodato in a 70′s jazz/funk style for his 1973 Prelude.

Phish starting playing an arrangement of Deodato’s arrangement 20 years later in 1993.

In 2008 Mondo Gecko played an arrangement of Phish’s arrangement of Deodato’s arrangement of Strauss. Yeah, you know you love it… ;-)
